Es el segundo disco de Bruce Dickinson que ya pasa a la historia como otra obra maestra del heavy metal grabado con la colaboración de Roy Z y musicalmente es diferente al anterior, Skunkworks. Accident of Birth marca el retorno de Bruce a su característica forma melódica de cantar.

Como todos sabrán todo lo que Roy Z toca se vuelve oro, además se encargó de tocar el piano. Otro factor que hace a este disco sonar diferente a los pasados es la aparición del viejo conocido de Bruce, Adrian Smith, que lo más importante de todo es que llegó para imponerle peso a las canciones, con riffs mas crujientes y agresivos por así decirlo, de lo que los otros discos nos ofrecen.

La carátula fue diseñada por Derek Riggs.

The ghost of Cain solamente aparece en las versiones de Japón, USA y en la reédición de 2005.

Bruce Dickinson (Paul Bruce Dickinson, nacido el 7 de agosto de 1958 en Worksop Notts, Inglaterra) es el vocalista principal en la banda de heavy metal Iron Maiden que entró para sustituir a Paul Di'Anno en 1982, se inició en Iron Maiden con unos conciertos en unas carpas de circo italianas. Hasta antes de unirse a ellos en 1982 para grabar The Number of the Beast, fue el cantante de Samson, donde era conocido por el nombre de Bruce Bruce debido a un sketch de Monty Python (al ingresar en Iron Maiden el mánager de éstos le hizo usar su nombre original) . Pero sus comienzos en la música se remontan a su época con Styx en 1976, de ahí pasó a cantar en Speed desde 1977 a 1978 y cuando este grupo se separó se unió a Shots hasta el verano de 1979.

Además de cantar también escribe, practica esgrima olímpica y pilotea Boeings 757 para la empresa de aviación Astraeus con el rango de Oficial Primero .Tiene un nivel tocando la guitarra por encima de la media, como se puede ver en el vídeo en directo de Iron Maiden Live After Death o en varios otros vídeos musicales de su carrera en solitario. Estudió historia en el Queen Mary and Westfield College de la Universidad de Londres, y fue un miembro activo de partido conservador de su Reino Unido natal.

Actualmente presenta 'Rock Show' en una emisora de radio de la BBC inglesa que se especializa en el rock alternativo, y también está encargado del programa Masters of Rock (Maestros del Rock) en otro dial de la misma radio. También fue el protagonista del documental Flying Heavy Metal del canal Discovery Channel en el que combina sus dos grandes aficiones: los aviones y el metal.
